I’m not just here to teach—I’m here to shift culture.
About Stevie Rae Hicks
Storyteller. Educator. Culture Shifter.
My name is Stevie Rae Hicks, and I believe education is more than a system—it is a sacred space for transformation. Raised in South Central Los Angeles and deeply shaped by the legacy of Tuskegee, Alabama, I carry both the fire of the city and the soul of the South in everything I do.
For over a decade, I have served as an English educator, Peer Helper Coordinator, head coach, and community organizer. My mission is simple yet urgent: to uplift students—especially those who are underserved and underestimated—through culturally affirming practices, academic excellence, and radical care.
But my work has never stopped at the classroom door.
I am the lead organizer of Tuskegee CommuniVersity, a community justice site grounded in dialogue, learning, and local leadership, and the founder of The Green Book Projek, a youth-powered initiative documenting and uplifting Black-owned businesses, services, and cultural assets. Together, these efforts center visibility, access, and ownership—positioning young people as researchers, storytellers, and stewards of their own communities.
Alongside this work, I am a doctoral candidate in Educational & Organizational Leadership at Samford University, where my scholarship explores transformative leadership, community-centered systems, and equity-driven change. I move between theory and practice with intention—building what I study and studying what I build.
I have led outreach for historic restoration initiatives in Tuskegee, designed programs grounded in racial and social justice, and cultivated spaces that celebrate Black identity, history, and brilliance. From strategic fundraising to youth empowerment, I move with clarity and purpose in every space I enter.
I don’t follow trends—I shape culture.
When systems fall short, I don’t just respond. I reimagine what’s possible, refine what’s broken, and build something bolder.
Across classrooms, coaching sessions, professional learning, and curriculum design, my work centers students while shifting school culture. I create learning experiences that are rigorous, liberatory, and wrapped in joy—frameworks that speak to both data and spirit.
And my journey doesn’t stop there.
I once owned a bookstore devoted to Black excellence and joy—a sacred space for truth-telling, community gathering, and radical imagination. From that vision grew The Cool School, a homeschool co-op and cultural hub designed to educate our children in ways traditional systems never could. We didn’t just meet standards—we expanded them.
I move with intention.
I build with care.
I come from bloodline and audacity—no blueprint.
This work is personal.
This mission is spiritual.
Whether I am developing curriculum, leading professional learning, speaking truth in policy spaces, or designing something beautiful that honors our people—
The work is intentional.
The vision is expansive.
And the impact is real.
A visionary leader who intentionally transforms mindsets, environments, and systems—especially those tied to education, identity, or power. They elevate marginalized voices, disrupt the status quo, and plant new seeds of possibility.
